Posted On: 21 JUN 2024 3:46PM by PIB Ahmedabad

As per the Government of India and NIFT-HO directions, the NIFT Gandhinagar Campus celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21 2024. The event was followed by a Plantation Drive, symbolizing growth and sustainability. This year's theme, "Yoga for Self and Society," highlights the holistic benefits of Yoga.

All Officers, Faculty, and Staff Members of the NIFT Gandhinagar Campus and officials from the Textile Commissioner office in Ahmedabad participated in the Yoga session, adhering to the standard protocol. Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Director of NIFT Gandhinagar, administered the oath to all participants, encouraging them to imbibe Yoga as a lifestyle by practicing it regularly. The United Nations, recognizing the significance of Yoga, passed a resolution on December 11, 2014, during the 69th session of the General Assembly, proclaiming June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

The word 'Yoga' derives from Sanskrit, meaning to join or unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. This ancient practice, which originated in India, continues to grow in popularity worldwide and is practiced in various forms. Yoga, a transformative practice, represents the harmony of mind and body, the balance between thought and action, and the unity of restraint and fulfillment. It integrates the body, mind, spirit, and soul, offering a holistic approach to health and well-being that brings peace to our hectic lives. The power of Yoga to transform is what we celebrate on this special day.

This global recognition aims to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing Yoga. NIFT Gandhinagar remains committed to promoting the practice of Yoga, recognizing its potential to foster a balanced and harmonious lifestyle.
