Argentina and NFDC Film Festival aims at fostering cross-cultural appreciation and collaboration

The Argentina and NFDC Film Festival which commenced on 27th May 2024 (Monday) with a spectacular opening ceremony, has an exciting lineup of films and cultural activities. This Film Festival, which will continue till June 1, 2024, is showcasing a diverse array of films and events aimed at fostering cross-cultural appreciation and collaboration.

The opening film screened on last Monday was the Argentinian movie- ‘Un Lugar En El Mundo’ which was played to a packed house, thereby setting a promising tone for the film festival. The opening ceremony which began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Consul General of Argentina, Daniel Quer Confalonieri; celebrated actor and producer Viveck Vaswani; and GM of NFDC, D. Ramakrishnan. In a lively discussion that followed, Mr. Confalonieri and Shri Ramakrishnan spoke on the collaborative film restoration efforts by both India and Argentina.

They emphasized on the vital role of film festivals and screenings in promoting cultural exchange and preserving cinematic heritage, as well as highlighting how cinema serves as a rich artefact for future generations. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Actor Taha Shah Badussha, while special guests included casting director Ms. Dolly Thakore (notable for her work on NFDC's co-production- "Gandhi") and Ravi Gupta, former MD of NFDC and producer of the acclaimed film "Rudaali." They shared their experiences, extended their gratitude to NFDC for the invitation, and praised NFDC's efforts in showcasing restored films. Taha Shah Badussha expressed his delight in being associated with the festival and praised NFDC for its outstanding efforts in organizing the event and received a hearty applause from the audience for his recent performance in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Epic Netflix series "Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar."

Adding a cultural flair to the evening, Mr. Hernon Ohaco and Ms. Shefali performed an exceptional Tango dance, captivating the audience in this festival which marks a significant celebration of cinematic art and cultural exchange. 

NFDC movie ‘Ek Din Achanak’, which was a major hit with film-lovers, was screened on the second day of the festival, that is, on 28th May, 2024.  The lineup of films from the third day, that is today, include ‘Made in Argentina’ (to be screened on 29th May, 2024), ‘Rudaali’ (to be screened on 30th May, 2024), ‘Casas De Fuego’ (to be screened on 31st May, 2024) and ‘Manthan’ (to be screened on 1st June 2024). These films will be showcased at 4:00 PM in AUDI II of the NFDC- National Museum of Indian Cinema at Pedder Road in Mumbai.
