The National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, is preparing to commemorate its 24 Foundation Day on April 5th, 2024, at its premises. This significant event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the institute's pioneering initiatives and notable accomplishments.

Over the years, NCPOR, located in Goa and operating under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, has consistently made significant scientific and logistical contributions to polar and ocean research. These efforts have highlighted the institute's versatility and unwavering dedication to upholding India's presence in the global polar scientific community, as well as contributing to a better understanding of climate change dynamics.

NCPOR's research covers a wide range of areas, from the extreme regions of the Polar Regions to the depths of the Indian Ocean. From conducting studies on past climates to current research on climate change in the cryospheric and oceanic realms, the institute remains at the forefront of scientific inquiry. Using its expertise and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, NCPOR continues to make substantial contributions through Indian Polar Programs, including Himalayan studies, and various geoscientific programs in Indian and international waters.

To make the 24th Foundation Day memorable, Ambassador Pankaj Saran, Convener of NatStrat and Member of the National Security Advisory Board, will be the Chief Guest. Joining him as the Guest of Honor will be Dr. Anil Bhardwaj, Distinguished Professor and Director of the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, who will also give a lecture entitled "Planetary and Space Missions of India" during the event.

In addition, a special Picture Postcard featuring Bharati Station, India's third station in Antarctica, will be revealed during the opening of the Bharati Branch Post Office at the Indian Antarctic Station through a live video conference.
