Dr. A R Sontake, General Manager in Bhilai Steel Plant, has been appointed as Executive Director & Professor at the prestigious National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, on deputation basis. Dr. Sontake has over 25 years of experience in the field of Fire Safety and Engineering.

Having commenced his journey with the Fire Brigade of SAIL, Bhilai, in 1999, after completing his Fire Engineering from NFSC, Dr. Sontake has the distinction of being the first Ph.D. degree holder recognized by the Board of Studies of Fire Engineering in the country.

During his career at BSP, Dr. Sontake has played an important role in ensuring fire safety in the modernization and expansion projects of Bhilai Steel Plant. His expertise in fire-related matters has extended beyond the confines of his workplace, rendering services as a Technical Expert to State Governments and other Institutions. Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Dr. Sontake has received many awards from the BSP management.

Dr. Sontake's appointment as the Executive Director & Professor at NFSC is a significant milestone in his career. He is the first-ever appointee at Level-14 (Joint Secretary) in NFSC under the Ministry of Home Affairs, underscoring his remarkable accomplishments and dedication to the field of Fire Safety.

Expressing his strong desire to serve his Alma Mater, Dr. Sontake aims to spearhead extensive research and development projects in fire technology. He envisions fostering collaborations with National and International Universities to enhance Fire Safety standards, thereby safeguarding precious lives and national property.

In his new role, Dr. Sontake will have such responsibilities as acting as the Executive Director and Head of the Institution, teaching, imparting fire training, overseeing practical and research activities, assisting in educational functions and smooth conduct of examinations and planning and directing professionals fire courses activities within the organization and in the State Fire Services.

His other responsibilities will include deciding on policy matters in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, serving as Member Secretary of the College Advisory Committee, collaborating with academic and research institutions worldwide, providing consultancy, guidance to students, and reviewing academic performance, developing and upgrading laboratories with the latest technology and designing curricula and representing the institute in technical meets.

Dr. Sontake's expertise and dedication will enrich the educational landscape at NFSC, empowering trainee officers and scholars to excel in the field of Fire Safety.
