State Unit: Andhra Pradesh, Southern Region, GSI hosts “Workshop on Utility of NGCM Data, NGDR Portal and Emerging Technologies in Mineral exploration” held at Vijayawada.

State Unit: Andhra Pradesh of Geological Survey of India (GSI) conducted “Workshop on Utility of NGCM Data, NGDR Portal and Emerging Technologies in Mineral exploration” at Vijayawada on 08.02.2024. GSI has been relentlessly generating and updating geological, geochemical, geophysical baseline data through national programmes like National Geochemical Mapping (NGCM) and National Geophysical Mapping (NGPM), National Aerogeophysical Mapping Programme. The main focus of the workshop was to highlight and create awareness among all the stakeholders and end users operating in Andhra Pradesh regarding the use of these Baseline Geoscience Data of GSI for enhancing mineral exploration efforts and in allied fields such as land use, land cover, human and animal health, agriculture, forest, disaster management, environmental management etc. The accessibility all baseline and exploration data via newly launched NGDR Portal and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for effective use of this huge database were was also emphasized.

The workshop was inaugurated by chief guest Shri V. G. Venkata Reddy, Director, DMG, AP & MD, APMDC, who emphasized on the importat role played by GSI in mineral exploration & sought cooperation of GSI in mineral resource and mining space of Andhra Pradesh. Shri Ch. Venkateswara Rao, HoD & ADG, SR, GSI highlighted on the usefulness of the baseline data of GSI to different stakeholders in mineral exploration and research. Shri S. N. Mahapatro, DDG, State Unit: Andhra Pradesh in his welcome address apprised the gathering about the objective of the workshop and importance of baseline geoscience data of GSI. He also highlighted the data dissemination policy and accessibility through National Geoscience Data Repository (NGDR) portal for all the stakeholders of Andhra Pradesh.

The workshop was held in two technical sessions with seven talks on topics of National Geophysical Mapping and utility of NGCM data, National Geochemical Mapping, National Geoscience Data Repository (NGDR) Portal, Regional mineral Targeting (RMT) and emerging technologies in Mineral exploration.

Officer and experts from State Government Departments, Central Government Departments of allied sectors such as DMG, APMDC ONGC, AMD, IBM, Forest, Agriculture, Ground water, Horticulture Departments, Andhra University, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Adikavi Nannayya University, K L University, S W L Universities Coastal mining, NDRF, DME, APSAC, APSDMA, RINL, DTCP, JSW cements, Steiger Geoscience and Engineering Pvt Ltd, Andhra Cements, Sagar Cements and others have attended the workshop.
