Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-led Government has given priority to the empowerment of women: Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Textiles Shri Piyush Goyal has said that the Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is giving priority to the empowerment of women. He was speaking at an event held in Chennai as part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra. The Minister handed over cheques and benefits of various central government welfare schemes to beneficiaries at functions which were held at three venues in Chennai today. Mr Piyush Goyal said the Prime Minister’s Guarantee to the people goes beyond their expectations and takes the benefits of government schemes at the door steps of the common man.

   

He said the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra has made a huge impact in the country with people’s participation. He said the yatra has reached a phenomenal 10 crore people in 50 days. The yatra has created greater awareness among the people about the people centric schemes being implemented by the Modi government. The Minister stated that this is a Yatra towards making of a New and self-reliant India.

The Minister said that, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana a total of 81 crore people have been benefitted and more than 10 crore people have been provided with free cooking gas connections under Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana. He said as far as Tamil Nadu is concerned over 3.5 crore people have been benefitted under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and 40 lakh people provided Gas connections under PM Ujjwala Yojana.

   

The Minister said, the PM had inaugurated a state-of-the-art modern Airport in Tiruchirappalli recently. The state’s development is part of the country’s growth story, he added. The government is giving priority for the development of the poor, youth farmers and women.

   

Shri Piyush Goyal also visited the residence of DMDK founder President and actor Vijayakanth at Saligramam, Chennai today, where he paid floral tributes to his portrait. He consoled Vijayakanth's wife Smt Premalatha and family.
