International Purple Fest Goa – 2024 to be held from 08 to 13 January


CM says impact of last year's Purple Fest reverberated throughout the country

An orientation session was conducted for the Swayampurna Mitras of Goa at the Directorate of Accounts, Porvorim, today, 01 January, in view of the upcoming International Purple Fest Goa - 2024, which is slated to take place from 8 to 13 January 2024. The primary objective of the meeting was to apprise the Swayampurna Mitras about the significance of the fest, which is designed as a platform for individuals with disabilities to exhibit their capabilities and talents.

The International Purple Fest aims to host various sessions tailored to different types of disabilities, offering guidance on effectively managing challenges. Moreover, specialized sessions have been planned for parents of disabled individuals, providing invaluable guidance on care-giving.

While addressing the gathering, Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, urged Swayampurna Mitras to actively engage within their communities, identifying disabled individuals and assisting them in obtaining a UDID card. Emphasizing the card's importance, he highlighted its role in facilitating access to necessary equipment, aligning with Goa's commitment to support the disability community. Reflecting on last year's success, the Chief Minister said, "The impact of last year's Purple Fest reverberated not only within Goa but throughout the country."

Expressing gratitude for the commendable efforts of those involved, Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai underlined the fest's significance as a movement that signifies a revolutionary step in the lives of individuals with disabilities. "This event serves as a critical platform to raise awareness about various government schemes, enlightening people about the diverse facilities and support services available," he said.

Guruprasad Pawaskar, the Goa State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, kicked off the meeting with an insightful presentation, unveiling a rich array of activities and attractions scheduled for the much-anticipated event. This year's edition promises to introduce exciting additions such as excursions, cruises, movie screenings, and an array of engaging games and activities, ensuring a dynamic and enjoyable experience for participants.

Talking about Goa government’s ADIP scheme (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances), Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA from Curtorim, highlighted the government's commitment to providing necessary equipment to individuals with a 40% disability certificate and a minimum monthly income of Rs. 22,500. "This initiative ensures coverage for a significant segment of the population, fostering inclusivity and support," he said.

Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas and Ayushi Kumari IAS, Assistant Collector North Goa, were also present at the event.
