National Jute Board organizes ‘Jute Fair’ in Chennai

National Jute Board (NJB), set up by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, is undertaking various promotional programmes for Indian Jute, in India and abroad.
As part of its promotional activities, NJB is organizing a promotional "JUTE FAIR" which comprises of Display Cum Sale of Eco-Friendly, Lifestyle Jute Products. Around 28 Jute entrepreneurs from different parts of the country, including Tamilnadu (10 nos.), Karnataka (1 No), Telangana (2 Nos), West Bengal (12 Nos), U.P (3 Nos), showcased their environment
friendly jute consumer products like, Jute Handicrafts, Jute Dolls, Fancy Jute bags, Jute Shopping bags, Gift articles, Jute Wall hangings, Home Textiles, Jute Footwear, Jute Floor Coverings, etc. The promotional JUTE FAIR is held at M/s. Kamadhenu Kalyana Mahal, Mylapore, (Luz Corner) Chennai-600004, during the period 13th to 19th Dec’2023 from 10 a.m to 8.00 p.m.
Dr. L. Subramanian, I.A.S, Commissioner of Agriculture, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated the Promotional Jute fair, on 13th Dec’2023 at 10.00 A.M. Shri.T.Ayyappan, Head-Marketing, National Jute Board, Kolkata, organised the promotional event. Mrs.Poornima, Asst. Director, Textile Committee, Govt. of India, Mr.Ponnusamy, Quality Assurance Officer, and various other Senior State Govt. Officials, were present during the occasion.
Chief Guest during the visit appreciated the efforts of NJB and also the Jute Artisans and their craftsmanship and also advocated usage of Jute Products, in the Daily Life, by the general public to replace Plastic products.
During his visit, the Chief Guest opined that, the Jute entrepreneurs should make use of this opportunity and try to start exporting their Jute Diversified products, utilising the schemes of NJB. Chief Guest also appreciated the Jute Cluster from Kanchipuram, who took Jute training, during the last month, through NJB’s JRCPC Scheme, and have participated in this Jute Fair, with their new started jute Unit. Chief Guest also opined that the Jute Participants in the Jute Fair, should try to approach the large institutions and should obtain Orders, for promoting the Jute Diversified products.
Shri.T. Ayyappan, Head Marketing, NJB, Kolkata, invited the South based Jute units, who have not utilised the schemes of NJB, like Scholarship Scheme for the Girl Children of the Workers of JDP Units, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, EMPA Scheme (Export Market Development Assistance), and other schemes, for applying under the NJDP schemes.
The Registration Certificate under the Jute Mark Logo registration, was also issued to some of the Jute Units, by Mrs.K.Poornima, Asst. Director, Textiles Committee, Chennai, in the presence of Shri.T.Ayyappan, Head-Marketing, during the Jute fair. Shri.T.Ayyappan, also opined that, the New Jute Entrepreneurs, who have started the New units are the “Warriors of Nature” and “Using of Eco-Friendly Jute Products at Home and Office, will Save the Future Generation”.
The Indian Jute sector, comprising of Jute mills and a large number of small & micro units. India is the world's largest and biggest producer of raw jute and jute goods. The exports of Jute Diversified products has increased from 963 Crores (during 2019-20) to Rs.1, 506 Crores during 2022-23. The exports of overall Jute goods (which includes Traditional Jute products) has increased from 2,423.84 Crores (during 2019-20) to Rs.3, 506 Crores during 2022-23.The major jute diversified products in the export basket comprises of: Jute floor coverings, Hand & Shopping bags, wall hangings, gift articles, decorative fabrics.
The abridged version of some of the Schemes of National Jute Board, “National Jute Development Programme” (NJDP), is given below:
(I) Scholarship Scheme for the Girl Children of the Workers of Jute Mills/JDP Units Scholarship scheme for the Girl-children of the workers of Jute Mills/JDP Units on passing outs Secondary Examination @ Rs 5,000/- and for Higher Secondary Examination @ Rs 10,000/-(To be routed through IJMA / JPDEPC)
(II) Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme
5% of the cost of Jute Raw Materials used in manufacturing exported JDPs and 3% of the sales value of JDPs exports, whichever is less. Maximum limit of Incentive is limited to Rs. 12.00 Lakh per unit per annum.
(III) Jute Resource-Cum-Production Centre (JRCPC)
To spread Jute Diversification programme through Skill Trainings to new artisans and WSHGs and for sustained employment for production and marketing of JDPs (Jute Diversified Products)
(IV) Jute Retail Outlets (JRO)
The rate of assistance/ support for running the Jute Retail Outlet will be 25%, on the actual sales on their GST return, etc. The maximum limit will be capped at Rs.75,000/- per month.
(V) Market Development & Promotion Scheme (MDPS)
Under EMPA Scheme (Export Market Development Assistance) Assistance at the rate of 90% assistance to New Exporters and Artisans (First 3 Attempts), 75% Assistance to Micro MSMEs and 50% to Large Jute Mills Exporters on Space rent & Decoration, Economy Class Air-fare & Accommodation (Max. for 2), subject to maximum of Rs.6.75 Lakhs, Rs.5.62 Lakhs and Rs.3.75 Lakhs, respectively.
(VI) Jute Mark India Logo (JMIL)
"Jute Mark India Logo" serve as an assurance for the buyers / consumers that the product being purchased is genuinely of Jute of Indian origin. JMIL Scheme is implemented through Textiles, Committee, Govt. of India
