DRI to celebrate 66th Founding Day on 4th Dec 2023

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is the premier intelligence and enforcement agency on anti-smuggling matters under the aegis of Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), Government of India. With its Headquarters at New Delhi, 12 Zonal Units, 35 Regional Units and 15 Sub-Regional Units staffed by a little over 800 officials, DRI has been carrying out its mandate of preventing and detecting cases of smuggling of narcotic drugs & psychotropic substances, gold, diamonds, precious metals, wildlife items, cigarettes, arms, ammunitions & explosives, counterfeit currency notes, foreign currency, SCOMET items, hazardous & environmentally sensitive materials, antiques etc. and taking punitive action against the organised crime groups engaged therein. DRI is also engaged in unearthing commercial frauds and instances of customs duty evasion. On behalf of the CBIC, DRI is the first point of contact for intelligence sharing and investigative assistance to partner Administrations under bilateral and multilateral Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements in force. In its 66 years of service to the nation, DRI has acquired a formidable reputation for itself in the field of law enforcement by adapting to the ever changing economic and transnational organised crime scenario as well as through active inter-agency cooperation, both within the country and beyond.

DRI shall be completing 66 years of its existence on 4th December 2023. To commemorate this occasion, Founding Day Celebrations shall be organised at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs and Special Secretary to the Government of India will inaugurate the event in the presence of Shri Rajiv Talwar - Member (Compliance Management), CBIC who shall be the Guest of Honour. Smt. V. Rama Mathew – Member (IT, Taxpayer Services & Technology), CBIC, senior representatives from Indian Law Enforcement Agencies and senior officials of the CBIC shall also be present during the Celebrations.

As per tradition, the annual “Smuggling in India” report shall be released on this occasion, which brings together DRI’s performance and experience over the last financial year as well as trends in the field of anti-smuggling and commercial fraud. Officers and staff are the lifeblood of any organisation and are responsible for its performance and success. To acknowledge the leadership and exceptional contributions in the line of duty, DRI Utkrisht Seva Samman and DRI Veerta Prashasti Patra shall also be conferred on this occasion.
