“About Dry Grasses” screened at IFFI as Mid Fest Film

‘About Dry Grasses,’ the Turkish film directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan has captured the attention of the film-lovers at IFFI, with its intricate take on the annals of the human condition in all its banalities, dilemmas and sullen complexities. The film was chosen as the Mid-fest film at IFFI 54.

“I love to make cinema on human relations and that is my style of film making. Human emotions often bring unexpected and spontaneous elements to the storytelling process” said the Director and Producer, Nuri Bilge Ceylan while addressing the media in a Press Conference organized by PIB at IFFI 54.

Elaborating on his style he said, “I don't pre-plan the shooting process. My approach involves planning the dialogues and discovering everything on the set during the shoot. Sometimes I capture footage intended for one purpose but end up using it differently. During editing, having a surplus of material allows me to be more creative.”

While answering a question on choosing a cinematographer for his film, the Director said, “I prefer to work with someone I've previously collaborated and enjoyed working with.” However, he explained that in his last film, he opted for a change, primarily because of the opportunity of a free collaboration. “I possess a good understanding of the cinematography industry, allowing me to adapt and work effectively with any cinematographer. I assess a cinematographer based on their personality, both in terms of their nature and their skill set,” he added.
