BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (BIS) CONDUCTED AN AWARENESS PROGRAMME FOR FOOTWEAR / FOOTWEAR COMPONENTS MANUFACTURERS AT VELLORE TODAY

Bureau of Indian Standards is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS),Chennai Branch Office conducted an awareness program Today, 17.10.2023 at Vellore, considering the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Central Government to cover the different footwear / footwear component products under BIS certification Scheme. Around 51 related manufacturers / laboratory personnel from in and around Vellore District have actively participated.

The Stakeholders were briefed about the different footwear / footwear components, products with the pertinent Indian Standard specifications (IS) brought under Mandatory Certification. Brief introduction was given about BIS, its core activities and about mandatory certification. The Participants were informed about the various information on the following, already published and available at BIS Webpage

Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued for Footwear Products, covering 27 Footwear Products and components,

Implementation date of QCOs,

Product Manuals as per various IS incorporating grouping guideline and Scheme of Inspection and Testing Circulars issued clarifying the implementation of QCOs for certain products covered under IS (5) Optional Clauses for Micro and Small Enterprises under Scheme of Inspection and testing (SIT) for identified footwear products

This was followed by a presentation on “BIS CARE” a mobile based application, being a one-stop solution for the manufacturers / stakeholders has been demonstrated especially with the feature of KNOW YOUR STANDARDS. The Procedures in details were explained in respect of submission of an application under our manakonline portal as per Option 1 ( Normal Procedure , under which time taken to grant licence is ninety days from the date of receipt of application ) and Option 2 (Simplified Procedure, under which time taken to grant licence is 30 days from the date of receipt of application). Towards the end, the various queries raised by the participants were addressed appropriately and indented objective of the program was achieved.

BIS is also planning such programmes in the coming weeks at different districts under the jurisdiction of BIS - Chennai Branch Office.
