Today, Gandhi Jayanti Day was observed at the V.O.Chidambaranar Port Authority. Shri Bimal Kumar Jha, Chairperson i/c., and Senior Officers of the Port paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the Administrative office of the Port, o­n the occasion of his birth anniversary.

As a befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and as a part of Special Campaign 3.0, around 200 sanitation workers of the Port were acknowledged and honoured by Shri Bimal Kumar Jha, Chairperson i/c., in the presence of Shri K. Ravikumar, Chief Engineer and other senior officers of the Port, for their dedicated upkeeping of the Port estate and upholding the spirit of cleanliness.

V.O. Chidambaranar has chalked out a 27 long day programmes from 01.10.2023 to 31.10.2023 like

• Removal of garbage,
• Painting of all sanitation assets,
• Discourage usage of single use plastic items and encouraging alternatives to Single Use Plastic
• Cleanliness drives and awareness activities at Port schools to educate children on the importance of waste segregation at source
• Cleaning of all assets like berth area, railway tracks, Port colony, hospital etc.
• Conduct special programmes to promote the sanitation journey of the country.

Shri Bimal Kumar Jha, Chairperson i/c., VOC Port in his address remarked that VOC Port takes pride in claiming as one of the cleanest Ports in the country and also requested all to make cleanliness a ‘way of life’. It is imperative that the seaports are kept clean and well maintained to ensure environmental conservation, compliance to environmental obligations, upkeep safety standards, improving operational efficiency and productivity, and reputation of the trade leading to increased trade volumes and economic growth.

Swachhata Hi Seva 2023 campaign is being observed under the joint aegis of Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation & Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Government of India for undertaking cleaning (shramdaan) activities on the theme 'Garbage Free India' to reinforce the concept of Sanitation as everyone’s business.
