Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya laid the foundation stone of New Campus of NIPER at Panihati in West Bengal

Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya laid the foundation stone of New Campus of National Institute of Pharmaceuticals Education and Research (NIPER) at Panihati , North 24 Parganas in West Bengal .


Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, conveyed his greetings to all delegates, students, faculties, and press & media.  He announced 78 crore rupees for the construction of a permanent campus of NIPER KOLKATA in Panihati and 100 crores to build the centre of excellence. In his speech, he expresses the amplitude of Indian pharma industries and their manufacturing capacity by saying, "4 out of 1 pill consumed in the world is made in India.  Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya shares the view of the honorable Prime Minister to support 8000 MSME pharma companies in the field of research and innovation. With this view, the Ministry of Pharmaceutical makes the NIPERs a center of excellence in their respective domain. In a holistic approach, the NIPER should collaborate with the industries to participate in industrial research and also want to make a bridge between industry and academia. To encourage entrepreneurship ideas minister announced 150 crores to 150 innovative ideas. 


The minister said that during the Covid pandemic, the Prime minister and he talked to leaders of many nations. Most of them said that they are dependent on medicines made in India.  India did not raise the price of any medicine during that time. The confidence is gained by the world, the nation is doing every step to respect that faith. 
Prof V Ravichandiran, Director, NIPER Kolkata, welcomed the dignitaries and presented the achievements of the institute. He also mentioned the establishment of “Centre for Marine Therapeutics” and “Rare Disease Therapeutics” which aim to provide affordable medicines to society. He further informed that the Institute will establish a Centre of Excellence in Flow Reactor and Continuous Manufacturing with the funding support of Rs.100 Cr. from the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India. 


Background :- NIPER is the first National Level Institute, with the aim of becoming a centre of excellence for advance studies and research in Pharmaceutical Sciences. It has been declared as an Institute of National importance by the Government. NIPER, Kolkata was established in 2007 under the aegis of Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers as a Centre of Excellence for higher education, research and development in pharmaceutical sciences. Now it is planning to expand its facilities. For that reason, more space is needed, so the second campus will be built at the northern  suburb of the city.
