Improve Navigation Facilities

A total of Rs. 6639 cr. has been allocated for capacity augmentation of existing and new waterways and development of jetties to improve the navigation facilities in the country, details of which is given at Annexure-1.

Rs. 123.40 crore was sanctioned for the development of 37 km stretch of South Buckingham canal between Shollinganallur to Kalpakam of NW-4 in 2014. Subsequently, IWAI carried out survey / studies and initiated action to develop the stretch between Sholinganallur to Kalpakam (Tamil Nadu) in the first phase. However, the work could not commence due to significant encroachment on the waterway.
