Infrastructure facilities in Minority Institutions

 The Government of India implements various schemes for the welfare and upliftment of every strata, including minorities, specially the economically weaker and lesser privileged sections of the society, through various schemes of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Rural Development.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), which is an area development programme under which community infrastructure and basic amenities are being created in the identified areas. Education and skill development are among the priority sectors under PMJVK and projects such as construction of schools, residential schools, additional classrooms, hostels, computer labs/digital classrooms, science laboratories, drinking water facilities and toilets in schools, ITIs/ Polytechnics, additional infrastructure in ITIs, skill centres, etc are supported under the scheme. The scheme is being implemented under the aegis of the State Governments/ Union Territory (UT) Administrations on a fund sharing pattern and the projects are implemented and managed by the concerned State/ UT Government. The scheme has been approved with effect from financial year 2022-23 with the revised guidelines, for implementation in all districts of the country during the period of 15th Finance Commission Cycle.

In the last three years i.e. during 2020-21 to 2022-23, a total of 38 school buildings, 11 residential schools, 51 hostels, 8 additional infrastructures in ITIs and 9 skill centres have been approved under PMJVK for the various States/ UTs. For the State of Tamil Nadu, a total of 66 infrastructure units worth Rs. 634.19 crore have been approved under PMJVK during the last three years, which include 11 additional classroom in schools at a cost of Rs. 7.21 crore; 1 additional infrastructure in ITI at a cost of Rs. 2.40 crore; and 1 skill centre at a cost of Rs. 3.60 crore.

This information was given by the minister of minority affairs, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
