Transformative Redevelopment of Maharashtra Railway Stations Under ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' launched


Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais Commends Unveiling of Ambitious Railway Station Revamp Initiative

In an event held at Parel railway station, His Excellency Governor Ramesh Bais underscored the pivotal role of railways in Maharashtra's development as under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The initiative aims to elevate 44 railway stations across Maharashtra, with a focus on delivering world-class facilities to passengers. Addressing the gathering, Governor Bais expressed his gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister for his unwavering commitment to enhancing the state's infrastructure. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country today. Union Minister of Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw also joined virtually.

The Governor emphasized the relentless progress witnessed in the country's railway services since its inception, attributing its profound impact on passenger and freight transportation. He lauded the current level of comfort offered by train travel, a mode he personally prefers. The Indian Railways, often referred to as the nation's lifeline, stands as a symbol of unity in diversity, seamlessly connecting the varied tapestry of India.

Highlighting the imperative of modernizing railway stations that had long been overdue, the Governor envisioned that the infusion of contemporary infrastructure would not only invigorate rural development but also expedite travel convenience to Mumbai, the state capital. Furthermore, he accentuated the transformative potential of ongoing projects such as the Trans Harbor Link, Mumbai Metro Project, and Coastal Road Project, all of which are poised to metamorphose Mumbai into a world-class metropolis.

Governor Bais fervently called for the integration of environment-friendly and disabled-friendly facilities within the rejuvenated stations. The presence of other prominent dignitaries, including Uday Samant, Minister of Industries of Maharashtra, added further resonance to the event.

As part of the comprehensive Amrit Bharat Stations initiative, a total of 44 railway stations within Maharashtra are slated for redevelopment. This endeavor encompasses notable stations in Mumbai, specifically Parel, Vikhroli, and Kanjurmarg. Particularly, Kanjurmarg railway station has been earmarked for an extensive revamp, a commendable undertaking with an estimated expenditure of Rs 21.01 crore. The program at Kanjurmarg was attended by key figures, including Rajesh Arora, Chief Engineer of Central Railway, Akhlad Ahmed, Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Division of Central Railway, and Chief Operating Manager Mukul Jain, who lent their distinguished presence to the event.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of State for Railways Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve attended and addressed the programmes at Napur and Jalna railway stations respectively. 

Concurrently, parallel event was organized at Akurdi and Pune Railway Station, where Chandrakant Patil, Minister of Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra, graced the occasion, reaffirming the state's commitment to transformative progress. Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, Freedom fighters and dignitaries were present at the programmes ogranised at 44 Railway stations in Maharashtra.
