The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata authority informed today that the container vessel MTT Singapore, Flag Malaysia, Port of Registry-Port Klang, with a length over all (LOA) of 140m and drawing a draft of 7.4 m ran aground at about 11:25 am today at Pukuria Point (100m below ‘Atanno Gate’) near Garchumuk, Howrah due to steering failure.

    

 

The vessel was carrying 338 containers from Port Klang and was bound for Netaji Subhash Dock under Kolkata Dock System. 

 

The Master of the Vessel Edwin Deen Ramas from Philippines along with 20 crew members with nationality from Philippines and Malaysia have been marked safe. 

 

The pilot from SMP, Kolkata is on-board and tugs have been dispatched from Kolkata and Haldia to pull-out the vessel from its ground position. No oil spillage has been noticed yet.

 

The Master has been advised to lash the containers properly so as to ensure that no containers take to waters.
