IIT Goa Marks its 4th Convocation and 8th Foundation Day

IIT Goa celebrated its 4th Convocation at the Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula on July 30, 2023. Governor of Goa, Shri Sreedharan Pillai virtually graced the occasion.

The graduation ceremony witnessed 171 students being conferred with degrees, including 142 BTech students, 23 MTech students, and 3 MS students.

Governor in his address lauded the graduating students for their remarkable achievements and encouraged them to carry forward the legacy of excellence, commitment, and zeal set by their esteemed alma mater.

Governor emphasized the pivotal role IIT Goa can play in the transformation of Goa, especially in the fields of marine science and technology, as well as artificial intelligence. He highlighted IIT Goa's dedication to fulfilling the late Dr. Manohar Parrikar's vision of identifying specialized areas of research and development that align with Goa's unique strengths and requirements. He also commended the institute for aligning its activities with national objectives, such as the National Education Policy, 'blue economy,' and 'deep ocean' initiatives.

Governor fervently urged the state government to expedite the allocation of land for IIT Goa's permanent campus. This step is crucial for the institute to overcome its present challenges and operate with greater efficiency and impact.

During the ceremony, Dr. B. K. Mishra, Director of IIT Goa, presented the Report for the year 2021-22. He reiterated the institute's commitment to excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, as well as research, despite facing constraints such as inadequate infrastructure and power supply. The report showcased IIT Goa's persistent efforts to remain at the forefront of innovation while contributing to global progress and societal welfare. Dr. Mishra also shared encouraging placement statistics, revealing that even amid an ongoing recession, 97.6% of B. Tech and M. Tech students who registered for placements received lucrative offers. The highest package offered was 60 lakhs, and the average packages were 17.19 lakhs per annum for B. Tech students and 10.68 lakhs per annum for M. Tech students. These impressive numbers are a testament to the quality of education and opportunities provided by IIT Goa.

The graduation ceremony was attended by members of the Board of Governors, the Senate, proud families of the graduating students, as well as the dedicated faculty and staff of IIT Goa.
