NEP 2020 : A BRIGHT NEW VISION FOR EVERY STUDENT

In a symbolic move to join the celebration of the 3rd anniversary of the NEP 2020 in New Delhi by the honourable Prime Minister Sri.Narendra Modi, a press conference was convened at Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 JIPMER Campus by the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. Officials from Kendriya Vidyalaya , Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and the CBSE  attended the meet.

Presiding over the conference, Principal Sri. Jose Mathew hailed the path-breaking steps taken by the Govt.of India for re-defining  the grass root level of education through the effective implementation of the NEP 2020. He praised the NEP 2020 for opening a new vision for every student irrespective of their potential. He discussed the changes and improvements the institution has implemented since its inception. He expressed his happiness for K.V.No.1 JIPMER being one among the 49 chosen schools all over India for starting BALAVATIKA –I,II & III  on its first phase of implementation. He spoke about the re-alignment of age of admission for class 1 suiting to the mental age level of the students after the foundational literacy and numeracy imparted in BALAVATIKA.

He said that NEP 2020 ensures a more inclusive environment as the Socio-Economic Disadvantaged Group is brought to the limelight of education. He said that the NCF emphasis on the use of home language or multi-languages acts as a catalyst for spurring the basic literacy skills of the students and thus leading them to cultural awareness and expression. He spoke about the re-alignment of the age of admission in class 1 at the age of 6+ on the basis of the pedagogical nature and curricular requirements and the three-month play-based teaching-learning programme (NCF-FS) for them known as “Vidya Pravesh” as a positive move to welcome the young minds to the world of learning. He said that the five years of foundational stage upto class II, three years of preparatory stage upto class V, three years of middle stage upto class VIII and four years of secondary stage upto class XII are going to prove its worth in making the youth resourceful  nation-builders.

He said that the class-wise track record of learning outcomes in the NIPUN document ensures the attainment of FLN as it runs in class III in the current academic year.

He added that Kendriya Vidyalayas have introduced some fun courses such as carpentry, pottery, mask making, stitching, embroidery etc. as pre-vocational skill subjects for classes VI-VIII and Artificial Intelligence as a vocational subject from class VIII –XII in tune with the NEP 2020.

His words threw light on the pedagogical shift from teacher-centred approach to learner-centred approach and from rote-learning method to experiential learning method with emphasis on critical thinking, conceptual understanding and creativity through multi-disciplinary means supported by technology and teacher–training.  He spoke about the various training programmes meant for teachers such as ‘Toy-based pedagogy’ for primary teachers and NISHTHA –I,II & III to bring about the desired result in every stage of teaching-learning.

He referred to the Vidyanjali portal , a means for interaction between school and skilled volunteers and DIKSHA under PM e-VIDYA platform , Swayam Prabha T.V. channels and radio and mobile podcasts as various means offering multi-mode access to education for all categories of students.

He concluded his words stressing on the availability of adequate infrastructure and the process of updating the same following the recommendations of the NEP 2020.

Apart from Principal Sri.Jose Mathew, Sri.Kannadasan , Principal Jawahar Navodaya  Vidyalaya Puducherry and Sri.Natesan Kangueyan, Principal , Aditya Vidyashram Puducherry attended the press conference.
