The 55th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) held in Zurich, Switzerland from July 16 to July 25, 2023, witnessed outstanding performances by Indian students, garnering accolades and recognition on the global stage. India's delegation exhibited remarkable prowess, securing one gold and three silver medals at this prestigious competition.

In the overall tally of medals, India is at the 12th position (unofficial), possibly jointly with several other countries. China and Singapore have 4 gold medals each; Taiwan, Iran, Vietnam, and individual participants (perhaps from Russia) have 3 gold medals each; and Japan, USA, Uzbekistan, Armenia, and Bulgaria have 2 gold medals each.This year, 348 students from 87 countries, along with two teams under the IChO flag, vied for excellence in the IChO.

The triumphant Indian students who brought pride to the nation are as follows:

1.         Krish Srivastava (Noida, Uttar Pradesh) - Gold Medalist

2.         Aditi Singh (Ahmedabad, Gujarat) - Silver Medalist

3.         Avaneesh Bansal (Mumbai, Maharashtra) - Silver Medalist

4.         Malay Kedia (Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh) - Silver Medalist

The team was accompanied by Prof. Anupa Kumbhar (S. P. Pune University) - Head Mentor, Prof. N. Manoj (CUSAT, Kochi) – Mentor, Dr. Shraeddha Tiwari (ICT, Mumbai) - Scientific Observer, Prof. Gulshanara Shaikh (Formerly, St. Xavier's College, Mumbai) - Scientific Observer.

The HBCSE remains the nodal Centre for training and selecting students to represent India at various International Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy & Astrophysics. The National Olympiad Examinations conducted by HBCSE serves as the gateway for final team selection.
