Income Tax Department, Karnataka and Goa Region celebrated 164th ‘Income-tax day’ on 24th July, 2023.  The main function was held at C.R. Building, Queen’s Road, Bengaluru.  The officers and officials of Income-Tax Department attended the function in large numbers. 

Hon’ble Justice Shri Prasanna B Varale, Chief Justice of High Court of Karnataka was the Chief Guest of the function.  Justice Prasanna B Varale addressed the gathering and recollected the role of taxation in achieving social and economic objectives.  He also dwelt on the recent changes in the Income-Tax Department that have helped in increased revenue collections and widening of tax base.

 In this environment, he exhorted that employees should adopt more balanced and nuanced approach in dealing with the tax matters.  He encouraged the department to continue its efforts towards taxpayer centric reforms.  He advised that all the stakeholders including tax professionals be encouraged to work with the department in furthering tax compliance. 

The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax, Karnataka and Goa Region also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the emergence of Karnataka and Goa Region as one among the top three regions for direct tax collection in the country.  The Principal Chief Commissioner of Central Tax, Bengaluru Zone also graced the function as guest of honour.

A cultural programme consisting of Yakshagana performance by trained artists was also conducted.  Justice Prasanna B Varale interacted with the officers, officials and artists on the occasion and conveyed his best wishes.
