Dr. L. Murugan, who is on a visit to Andaman and Nicobar Islands, participated in an important event related to yoga at Port Blair today on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Speaking on the occasion, he mentioned that everyone from Kashmir to Lakshadweep is practicing yoga today because of the efforts of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Today we are practicing yoga in Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well, the minister said, which expresses the spirit of Vasuthaiva Kutumbakam which means Yathum Oore, Yavarum Keleer. He mentioned that Yoga is the pride of our country and it has become a movement that has added glory to our country.
Mentioning that our mind and body can be kept healthy and strong through yoga practices, the minister asked everyone to practice yoga and keep their bodies fit and healthy in daily life. The minister also highlighted that healthy citizens pave the way for a strong nation.
The program was organized by the Department of AYUSH at the Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Port Blair and was attended by the Lieutenant Governor of the Islands, Admiral DK Joshi and officials of the Andaman Nicobar Administration, as well as school and college students. Yoga Day celebrations were held with enthusiasm at 42 places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
This was followed by a meeting with the representatives of business community in Port Blair. They shared their views and made various demands regarding the development of the business sector in the island region.
As the Government in the Centre has completed 9 years, the minister highlighted the achievements of the government. The minister then said that the government is moving forward on the basis of the motto of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Viswas". He mentioned that development is not limited to metropolitan areas and the welfare schemes of the government are also reaching remote areas. Satating that the Union Government is extending all possible support to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the minister said that the overall development of these Islands and the progress that has been taking place in the last few years are a testimony.
He mentioned that the construction work of the district level hospital is nearing completion and soon its work will be completed and the hospital will be operational. The minister also said that the international airport terminal will support tourism and local economic development here. He also said that such development works will help in improving socio-economic relations with South Eastern countries.
Meanwhile, the minister who met the local fishermen at Swarajdeep (Havelock) said that necessary arrangements will be made to set up an ice factory and a cold storage in the area.
