LOK SABHA SPEAKER ADDRESSES 11TH CONVOCATION OF PRAVARA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, AT LONI AHMEDNAGAR

Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Om Birla, who is on a one-day visit to Maharashtra, addressed the 11th convocation ceremony of Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, at Loni, Ahmednagar today.

Paying his respect to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on this occasion, Shri Birla said that Maharashtra is the land of gallantry, valor and spirituality which is renowned around the world due to the contributions of its illustrious sons.
Appreciating the institute, Shri Birla said that the institute was established due to the cooperative movement and to serve the needs of farmers and workers. He expressed joy that the students of the institute have performed the noble task of humanitarian service in different parts of the country. Shri Birla told the students with the academic degree of graduation, and post graduation the students are beginning a new life. He suggested the students that after leaving college, they should dedicate their learning-training, research and innovation to society.

In the context of new research in medical sciences, especially with technology like Artificial Intelligence and 5G, Shri Birla said that in the contemporary period, doctors will have to be technically adept and stay in touch with the latest research. Expressing the view that learning never ends for doctors, he added that in the changing context, the students must dedicate themselves towards service of humanity by using their learning, training and research.
Shri Birla further said that although medical science has become technologically advanced in the current scenario, yet it has to be understood that India's spiritual culture and values are governed by humanistic approach and sensitivity; therefore it is necessary that doctors use the latest technology to perform their duties. Shri Birla advised the students to provide all possible help to the patients at all times.
Referring to Yoga, Ayurveda and other Indian systems of medicine, Shri Birla opined that holistic healing can be used for the upliftment of society. Shri Birla stressed that doctors should have knowledge of every aspect of patients' lives and should do everything possible to treat them.

Mentioning climate change, Shri Birla said that in today's time, climate change and its effects also relate to medical science and healthcare and therefore doctors should not only provide treatment but also study issues related to climate change in the changing context. There is a need to ensure that provisions are made to avoid the worst effects of climate change especially with relation to emerging diseases.

Shri Birla advised the students that they should make every effort to ensure that everyone around them remains healthy because if India remains healthy, it will move towards progress and prosperity faster. He added that today India is growing rapidly in every field under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. New changes are taking place in India in every field be it technology, agriculture, education, industry; India is leading the world in many sectors. Shri Birla said that the strength of the youth should be such that in the coming times, India takes the lead in every field. He added that the youth have the important responsibility to make a developed India, which will be accomplished through their hard work and energy
