NIT Rourkela community today paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his 132nd Birth Anniversary and remembered his role in shaping and unifying the nation, bringing people of all castes and creeds together. The programme was held at the community centre, NIT Rourkela, from 10.00 am onwards. The event started with welcome greetings from Prof. Hrushikesh Naik (programme coordinator). He presented a detailed read on the life and teachings of Babasaheb and said, "Today, India is facing many socioeconomic challenges such as communalism, separatism, gender inequality, etc. We need to find Dr. Ambedkar's spirit within us to face these challenges".

Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director, NIT Rourkela) inaugurated the function by paying homage to the Father of the Indian Constitution. He said, "As Babasaheb has quoted that India shall be considered developed when the last person of the country is developed or empowered, so we all should follow his vision and grow together. We can create a developed society with zero discrimination only with people's participation. India will achieve its goals of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - One World, One Family, and One Future, once the communities come together. The ongoing G20 Jan Bhagidari events are an excellent opportunity for us to involve and bring everyone together, working towards the holistic development of the nation.”
Prof. Sanatan Pradhan (Department of Botany, Municipal College, Rourkela) graced the event as the Guest Speaker. He said, "Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s life is an inspiration for all of us to face the toughest times in our lives. We all have immense potential to do great things through self-control and concentration. We must build a collaborative society focusing more on social well-being simultaneously with Infrastructural and Economic development. Dr. Ambedkar was the voice of the oppressed classes on every platform, and today I urge everyone to echo his voice."

Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar, NIT Rourkela) also addressed the gathering and said, "If the colour of our blood is the same, why do we even have a discriminatory complex? Prepare yourselves to be the servant of society by following the teachings of Babasaheb. Try to build an environment of liberty and equality around you to pay tribute to Babasaheb's contributions.”

The second session of the event had a free health check-up camp for domestic helpers, workers and their family as part of the G20 Jan Bhagidari campaign. Doctors of Community Welfare Society (CWS) Hospital Jagda and Health Centre, NIT Rourkela, attended and checked 50+ people and advised them about the importance of health and hygiene. Prof. Santosh Kumar Sahoo (in charge of the NSS-NIT Rourkela team) and the NSS student volunteers coordinated the event. Prof. Snehashish Chakraverty (Nodal Officer, G20 Jan Bhagidari Events from NIT Rourkela) concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
