G20 Agriculture Working Group Meeting Delegates Mesmerized by Rock Garden, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, India – The G20 Agriculture Working Group Meeting delegates were in for a pleasant surprise on March 29, 2023, as they got a chance to explore the wonders of the Rock Garden of Chandigarh. The garden, also known as Nek Chand Saini's Rock Garden of Nathupur, is a sculpture garden built entirely from industrial and home waste and discarded items.

 

 

The delegates were captivated by the beauty and uniqueness of the garden. They were treated to a cultural extravaganza, featuring local dances and music, and got a chance to experience the rich and diverse culinary heritage of the region. The dishes, made from millets, included millet cheesecake, millet chocolate brownies, Bajre Ki roti, dal Baati Churma, Millets Tikki, and much more.

 

One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for the delegates to try Mehndi art. Many foreign women delegates were fascinated by this ancient Indian art form and enjoyed getting intricate designs on their hands.

The movie shown to the delegates depicted the history and functioning of the Rock Garden. They were amazed by the ingenuity and dedication of Nek Chand and the people who worked on this project.

About Rock Garden
The founder of the garden, Nek Chand Saini, was a government official who started building the garden secretly in his spare time in 1957. Today, the garden has spread over an area of 40 acres (16 ha) and is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of the human spirit.
