Funds Allocation and Utilization for Toilets

State/UT-wise number of Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM(G)] during the last three years are given at Annexure-1.

As per National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) conducted by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation during 2019-20 through an Independent Verification Agency, 98.6% of public toilets were functional. State/UT-wise details are given at Annexure-2.

State/UT-wise details of Central share funds allocated, released and utilized under SBM(G) during the year 2022-23 (till 6th March) are given at Annexure-3.

During 2022-23, the budget allocation for SBM(G) is Rs.5000 crore (Revised Estimates).  For 2023-24, Budget Estimate for SBM(G) is Rs.7192 crore.

Under SBM(G), no funds are provided for maintenance of public toilets.  Responsibility for Operation and Maintenance of public toilets is of the Gram Panchayats.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
