INDIA POST & INDIAN RAILWAYS LAUNCHED JOINT PARCEL PRODUCT SCHEME

A Joint Parcel Product (JPP) is launched by India Post and Indian Railways, to provide an end to end logistics solution for despatch of consignments weighing more than 35 kgs. The features of JPP Service are:
- Doorstep pick up:India Post will pick up the consignment at the doorstep of the customer and transport to the Railway Station (first mile activity).
- Safe transmission :Indian Railways will provide intermediate transmission between origin and destination railway stations (middle mile activity), in secured sealed boxes, ensuring safe and secured passage through time tabled trains.
- Doorstep delivery :At the destination railway station, India Post will transport the consignment from the station to the destination address and deliver the consignment at the doorstep of the addressee (last mile activity).
- Insurance : Mandatory third party insurance at an affordable rate has been arranged for the customers availing JPP Service.

* The above rates apply for pick up and delivery within municipal limits, beyond which, additional charges may apply.
- Railway rates will vary based on distance and weight.
- Insurance charges will be 0.03% of the value of the consignment + 18% GST.
- Single Point of Contact: India Post will be the single point of contact for the customer for the despatch of consignment from pick up till delivery.
A pilot project was conducted between Surat and Varanasi with a dedicated Parcel Van attached to Tapti Ganga Express Train.
In Chennai City Region, the first consignment under JPP wasdespatchedfrom Ranipet to Tirumanur, Ariyaluron 07.12.2022, for M/s. Devasena Enterprises, Ranipet. It was picked up at the doorstep of the customer at Ranipet, sent through Tiruchendur Express to Tiruchirappalli Railway Station and delivered atthe doorstep of the addresseeon 08.12.2022. This was also the first consignment booked by Tamilnadu Postal Circle.
Similarly, consignments were sent to Visakhapatnam and Palghar (Maharashtra) for the same customer.
In order to promote the Service, a joint meeting of officers of India Post and Indian Railways was held with the stake holders, potential customers, business houses and organized bodies like CII, FICCI, Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Associations, etc on 15.12.2022 at the office of the Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, Southern Railway. There was an interest among the SMEs, for such Service as it caters to their demand of sending consignments weighing from 100 kgs to 1 tonne.
