BIS OFFICIALS RAIDS A TOY SHOP AT OMR- CHENNAI - YESTERDAY NIGHT– LARGE QUANTITY OF TOYS WITHOUT ISI MARK SEIZED

A team of Officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai Branch Office, Southern Regional Office, Chennai 600 113 conducted an Enforcement Search and Seizure operation on 11 January 2023 Night at RITZ TRADE LINKS PRIVATE LIMITED, KIDZONE, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, OMR Thoraipakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 600097 based on an information of suspected violation of BIS Act, 2016.

During the operation, in pursuance of Section 28 of BIS Act 2016, it was found that the shop was found selling toys without BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark). A total of 817 toys (480 Non-electric toys such as Soft Toys, Plastic Moulded Toys, Puzzle Game Toys etc., and 337 Electric toys such as Battery Operated Toys, Remote Controlled Toys etc.,) without BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) were seized. As per Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020 issued by Govt. of India, all toys manufactured, imported, distributed, sold, hired, leased, stored or exhibited for sale shall be compulsorily certified by BIS and shall bear BIS Standard Mark. Hence, the trader had violated Section 16 and 17 of BIS Act 2016, by violating Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020.

          Action is being initiated by BIS, Chennai Branch Office – I against the offender under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.  The offence is punishable with imprisonment up to two years or a fine not less than Rs. 2,00,000/- but may extend up to ten times the value of goods or articles produced or sold or offered to be sold or affixed or applied with a Standard Mark or both as per Section 29 of BIS Act, 2016 for first Contravention.

          General public are, therefore, requested that in case they come across any instances of Misuse of ISI Mark the same may be intimated to the BIS Southern Regional Office, CIT Campus, 4th Cross Road, Taramani, Chennai-600 113.  Such complaints can also be made by using the BIS Care App or by sending an E-Mail to cnbo1@bis.gov.in.
