“Media is a major feedback aggregator on government schemes and policies”, said Additional Director General, PIB Chandigarh Shri Rajinder Chaudhry while attending the Media Workshop “Vartalap” organized by Press Information Bureau (PIB) Chandigarh at Nuh, on Wednesday. The workshop was organized to sensitize journalists about various Central Government schemes meant for the welfare of common citizens. Titled “Vartalap”, the workshop is part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s media outreach strategy and is conceptualized to act as a bridge between the masses and the government by empowering journalists with authentic information about Govt. schemes and policies.
Chaudhry said that the journalists should take benefit from the information shared by various government agencies through social media and help propagate the message of development among the masses. He also spoke about PIB Fact Check which can help negate fake news while giving a detailed presentation on the occasion about the working of PIB and other allied media units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The event also saw the presence of Nuh’s Dy. Commissioner Sh. Ajay Kumar, IAS and Addl Dy. Commissioner Ms. Renu Sogan, IAS. Addressing the gathering Shri Ajay said that NEP is a game changer that has been built on the five pillars of access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability. He further added that the New Education Policy offers a chance for the holistic development of a child by allowing multiple subject combinations based on a child’s interest. Responding to a request from the media, he also said that they will start conducting Press Conferences on a regular basis.
ADC Renu Sogan also addressed the media and requested for their participation through information dissemination to the masses in a bid to take the district ahead in all developmental indicators.
Later, an engaging interactive session was held with the journalists. A comprehensive feedback was also collected from them taking inputs and suggestions on improving the ‘Vartalap’. The Media Workshop saw an active participation of nearly 40 journalists from the city.
FLN Coordinator Ms. Kusum Malik spoke about the New Education Policy. She also asked the Reporters to pull the attention of the local people towards the issue of high dropout rates in schools. She highlighted how the elementary education is the basic building block for a human being. And how the Government has been trying to keep the dropout ratio low.
Dy CMO Dr. Vishal Singla spoke on the issues related to maternal health and requested media participation in sharing articles on the importance of healthy and fortified nutrition. He focused on the ‘Extended Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan’ and focused on the problem of anaemia in women.
Shri Harshit Narang, Asst. director, PIB Chandigarh highlighted the role of media as a fourth pillar of democracy and in creating awareness about welfare schemes in his welcome address while Sh. Ahmad Khan, Field Publicity Officer moderated the session.
