Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman to embark on a 2-day visit to Varanasi as part of the ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ tomorrow

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake a two-day visit to Varanasi on December 3-4, 2022 as part of the ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ – a month-long programme aimed at celebrating, reaffirming and rediscovering the age-old links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi – two of the country’s most important and ancient seats of learning.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had on November 19, 2022 inaugurated ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations and to uphold the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat’.

The Finance Minister will visit key places with Tamil influence in the city like Sri Vishalakshi Temple, Sri Kumaraswamy Mutt, Kashi Nattukottai Nagarathar Sathiram, Shri Chakralingeshwar Shrine and Siva Madam on December 3, 2022.

Smt. Sitharaman will also visit some of the important ghats in the city, including, Hanuman Ghat and Dashashwamedh Ghat. She will also participate in Shambo Aarti at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple on the evening of December 3, 2022.

On December 4, 2022, Smt. Sitharaman will attend a seminar on ‘Architecture and other Heritage Forms in IKS’ at the Banaras Hindu University and will also interact with students in a separate programme at the varsity. Later in the day, the Finance Minister will participate in a cultural programme at BHU as part of the ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’.

Four people from Tenkasi district in Tamil Nadu, who served the Kasi Viswanathar Temple for more than 30 years, will also be joining the Finance Minister at the ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ in Varanasi on December 3-4, 2022. Their journey will reinforce the historical and civilisational links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi.
