Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Dr. L. Murugan visited the Mormugao Zonal Base of Fishery Survey of India today. The Minister took a review of various projects and went sailing for a demonstration of surveying and fishing operations. Director General Fishery Survey of India Dr. R. Jayabhaskaran, Dr. S Ramachandran, Zonal Director, Fisheries Survey of India and other officials were present on the occasion

Minister Dr. L. Murugan visited the two survey vessels at the Mormugao Zonal Base facility, Motor Fishing Vessel (MFV) Sagarika and MFV Yellowfin. On the latter, the Minister sailed for a demonstration of surveying and fishing operations.

Director General Dr. R. Jayabhaskaran briefed the Union Minister about the various activities of Fishery Survey of India. He explained how the organization undertakes the vital task of surveying and assessing marine fisheries resources in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone along the coasts of Goa, Karnataka and Lakshadweep islands. He also briefed the Minister about some of the past achievements such as imparting training in various fishing techniques to fishery entrepreneurs, identification of fishing grounds and disseminating such information to the fishing industry.
