Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar today said that Gujarat’s Digital India initiatives can play a big role in supporting its traditional industries like diamond, textiles and pharmaceuticals.
“Gujarat’s future can be led by digital technologies along with its traditional sectors. If S stands for Surat, it also stands for Startups, D of diamond can symbolise Digital and T of textiles can be for Technology,” he said, while addressing students, startup and entrepreneurs at the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat.
Praising Gujarat for being a pioneer in taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea of New India, Mr Chandrasekhar said, “If India is going to be Semiconductor nation for the world, Gujarat being the first state in the country to come up with a Semiconductor policy of its own, will be the Semiconductor State,”
Referring to the next decade as India’s Techade that will usher in opportunities for the young, he said India under Prime Minister Modi has already achieved several milestones despite the Covid setback. Not only the number of startups and uniicorns have increased, but they have broken into new grounds as well, Mr Chandrasekhar said. “Today we have 680 innovators in the drones sector and 120 space technology who are into launch vehicles, mission control vehicles etc—these were previously unheard of,” he pointed out.
Sharing PM Narendra Modi’s vision for empowering all Indians - Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, the Minister said, “Previously, democracy in India was dysfunctional, with rampant corruption and leakages, today Digital India programme has ensured efficiency in disbursal of subsidies and public services to beneficiaries. Every single paise meant for beneficiary reaches them directly through direct account transfers.”
Mr Chandrasekhar said the slogan of “Double Engine ki Sarkar kare sapne saakar” (with the BJP both in states and at the Centre means better development for all) was not a political one and stands for true economic partnership that results in creating opportunities for all, especially the youth.
The Minister engaged in a ‘Q n A’ session with the students and replied to their questions on topics that ranged from skilling opportunities to growth of MSMEs in Gujarat and preparation of District Skill Development Plan.
Later Mr Chandrasekhar interacted with leaders from the Industry, academia and other eminent personalities of the city at a session organized at the Sarvajanik University, Gujarat.
