Under the leadership of the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India, today celebrated the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2022 with ‘Yoga for Humanity’ as the theme. International Day of Yoga 2022 is being celebrated this year marking the 75th ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’

Integrating the 8th IDY with the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Mass Yoga demonstrations were organised at 75 iconic locations across the country, under the leadership of 75 Union Ministers, in tandem with the Yoga Demonstration by the PM.

On this significant occasion, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs(MoTA) organized simultaneous mass demonstrations of Yoga at Three Iconic places namely the Birsa Munda College in Khunti, Jharkhand; Maa Kishakeshwari Temple site in Khiching, Mayurbhanj, Odisha; and Bhoramdeo Temple in Chouragaon, Kabirdham District, Chhattisgarh.

Shri Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, led the International Day of Yoga celebrations by participating at Birsa Munda College in Khunti, Jharkhand. The programme witnessed a gathering of more than 5500 participants.

Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Smt. Renuka Singh Saruta, attended the IDY 2022 programme at Bhoramdeo Temple in Chouragaon, Kabirdham District, Chhattisgarh. Smt. Yatinder Prasad, Joint Secretary and FA, MoTA, Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, Deputy Secretary, MoTA and other eminent officials attended the event and more than 2500 people participated in the Yoga Programme.

The Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Tribal Affairs, Shri Bisweswar Tudu, inaugurated the programme from the Kishakeswari Temple in Odisha. Shri Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, MLA of Jashipur, and Shri Naba Charan Majhi, MLA of Rairangpur, also graced the occasion. During the event, the Minister addressed the participants and participated in the festivities with other dignitaries.

The Ministry has also organised a session on “Technique of Rajyoga Meditation” in association with Om Shanti Retreat Centre, on the occasion of International Yoga Day 2022.

The theme for the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2022 is ‘Yoga for Humanity’. In the spirit of the International Yoga Day 2022, celebrations were wonderfully held across India, harmonizing them with the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations. The core purpose of IDY was to disseminate the Health Benefits of Yoga to the people, and it has created health awareness among people on a global scale. Over the years, IDY has become a mass movement for health.
