Two-day Yoga Workshop for Specially Abled Children at Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Porvorim Goa, concluded


‘Yoga has got lot of senses’ - Padmashri Brahmanand Shankwalkar

Central bureau of Communication, Field Office Goa in collaboration with Samrat Club, Panaji, concluded the two-day Yoga workshop for specially abled children at Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Porvorim Goa. The event was organised to give awareness on the physical and mental benefits that can be accrued via the regular practice of Yoga.  The valedictory function of the two-day event was attended by Padmashri Brahmanand Shankwalkar, former Indian footballer and first Arjuna Awardee from Goa, amongst other dignitaries. Shri Gurudas Pawaskar, State President for Disabilities, was also present on the occasion.

Padmashri Brahmanand Shankwalkar, while speaking on the occasion said ‘yoga has got lot of senses’, parents should take the initiative to teach their children to practice yoga in their day-today activities. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the initiative to adopt June 21 as International Yoga Day.

Yogacharya Suresh Kumar said, India was the only country having yoga culture in the world from ancient times. Include yoga in your ‘dincharya’, you yourself are the big doctor of your health, spend 1 hour for yoga from 24 hours a day, he said while talking about the importance of yoga.

Ms Prerana Pawaskar, President, Samrat Club, earlier welcomed the guests and the gathering Shri Riyas Babu, Field Publicity Officer, introduced the guests, while Shri Mahesh Revankar, proposed the vote of thanks. Shri Prakash Mahambre, Club Member, compered the programme. Padmashri Brahmanand Shankwalkar, felicitated at the hands of Shri Riyas Babu, while Shri Suresh Kumar at the hands of Ms. Prerana Pawaskar, with a shawl and shriphal.

Prizes were awarded to the winners of Drawing Competition and Suryanamaskar Competition, conducted during the occasion. Master Suman Das and Zoheb Kachi were awarded with consolation prizes while Master. Saish Talawdekar, Pratik Tulaskar and Vijay Kumar  won first, second and third prizes respectively, in Drawing Competition. In Suryanamaskar Competition Mast. Aamir Pir won the Gold Medal, while Mast.Rudresh Naik and Rehman won the Silver and Bronze respectively, the consolation prizes went to Mast.Suman Das and Kum. Purva Gauns. All students of Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Porvorim Goa, who gathered during the first session performed yoga under the guidance of Yogacharya Suresh Kumar.
