The Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan said the new fishing harbour coming up at Ameenabad in Uppada mandal of Kakinada with Central funding of Rs 422 crore is on right track and asked the officials to speed up works. The Minister on Tuesday visited the fishing harbour with officials accompanying him to monitor the progress.
Addressing the media in Kakinada, the Minister underlined that fisheries is one of the major sectors, having high potential for growth in exports, adding that the Central government is providing all support needed for expanding the marine based productivity in the country. He called for the state to work in tandem with the Centre for the development of fishing industry and exports underlining that the state is a leading exporter of marine products in the country. He emphasized on the Centre's PM Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) which can be made use to the maximum to the benefit of the fishing community.
The Minister conducted a review meeting with district officials on implementation of various Central schemes in the state for the welfare of people and asked the officials to monitor proper implementation in order to reach out to the needy.
Earlier in the day, Dr. L. Murugan called up on the youth to voluntarily come forward to donate blood to help the needy and save life. On the occasion of ‘World Blood Donor Day’ today, the Minister inaugurated the blood donation camp organized at Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada. He emphasized that any healthy person can donate blood three times in a year. The Minister praised the role being played by the Red Cross Society of India for its unparalleled service to the nation. He also administered a pledge to encourage youth to voluntarily come forward to donate blood and save lives of many. Later, he launched a poster to educate public on voluntary blood donation. The Minister felicitated those blood donars in the district, who had donated blood earlier on many occasions.
Dr. Murugan, later reached Chebrolu village of Gollaprolu mandal in Kakinada and launched Krishnam Raju Pond rehabilitated under Mission Amrit Sarovar. Speaking on the occasion, he said, as the nation is observing 75 years of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, ponds and lakes are being revived successfully across the country. He also interacted with the beneficiaries of MGNREGS on the and enquired about the implementation of the scheme and participated in plantation drive on the pond side.
In G. Ragampeta village of Peddapuram mandal in Kakinada, Dr. Murugan visited the Waste to Wealth Mission which is one of the nine scientific missions of the Prime Minister's Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council. He inspected the implementation of the Mission and distributed rickshaws to municipal workers who collect the wet and dry garbage.
Dr. Murugan also visited hatcheries at Konapapapeta and enquired about its functioning. He had a lunch on with the fishermen during the visit.
Member of Parliament (Kakinada) Smt. Vanga Geeta, District Collector Dr. Kritika Shukla, Dr. C. Suvarna, Chief Executive of NFDB from Hyderabad and other district officials accompanied the Minister.
