Spend your Summer Holidays Productively and Creatively

Nehru Science Centre is organising Creative Science Workshops for children this summer holidays so that children can spend their vacations in a creative way. The workshop will be held in offline as well online mode.
Workshops are on several interesting topics including on Robotics, 3D modelling and printing, Aero modelling, will be conducted at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai  from 1st May 2022 to 05th June 2022. 

Workshops will be conducted on Creative Art & Craft, Arduino workshop, Interesting Chemistry besides Toys Workshop and ‘Learn through the Fun workshop’ also during this period. 

Complete details of Workshop & Modalities are given below: Schedule 

   

   

1) Paper STEAMER on 01.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm:

Students have the chance to make, do and learn hands-on activities related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics using the very simple and omnipresent tool 'Papers'.

Material required: A4 size Xerox paper, Notebook paper & Geometry Box. 

2)    Kitchen Chemistry on 01.05.2022 from 04:00 pm to 05:30 pm:

"Kitchen Chemistry" workshop is an attempt by Nehru science centre, Mumbai to enhance the understanding and explore the capacity of school students that is being practiced every day in the kitchen of our homes. How can the material we use to cook food serve as a tool to do experiments? How cooking is complex chemistry? Let's try to get answers to these questions through practical experimentation through this workshop & a lot more…

Material required : Vinegar (100 ml), Baking soda (50gm), Liquid dishwashing soap (50 ml) (optional), Water (optional), Liquid Food colour red/orange, 200 ml plastic bottle, 2 transparent glass tumbler, one containing cold water and one containing hot water, Food colours red & blue, magnet (optional), Tissue paper/White paper, Transparent glass tumbler, Water, Table spoon, Tea powder, Turmeric powder, Cotton buds, Detergent solution (25 ml) , Lemon juice, White plain paper A4 size, Red and black colour sketch pens , Paper towel (tissue paper) or ordinary white paper, Pencil , Glue, Lemon, Spoon, Bowl (small), Candle , Match box , Scissors

3)    Paper Glider on 02.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm:

Experience the fun of making and flying paper plane models

Material required : A4 Sheets, Scissors, paper clips & Tape

4)    Astronomy on 02.05.2022 from 04:00 am to 05:30 pm: 
Astronomy is a fascinating subject because of many wonders we can experience like Phases of Moon, Eclipses, viewing stars, planets and constellations etc. We are going to see how these phenomena occur and try to understand that in detail with few hands-on models. Also we will try to see the light spectrum and learn how the rocket gets the projectile.

Material required : Black paper, White Drawing Sheet, Incense Stick & matchbox, Printout of templates on A4 sheet, Drawing Sheet /thick paper/magazine cover, Ice cream stick, Push Pin / Alpin (Tachani), Eraser, Sketch pens., CD (Compact Disc), Ruler, scissor, cutter, glue, pencil, cello tape, page of any newspaper, scissor

5)    Experiments with candles on 03.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm:

Material required : Candles, jar/transparent glass tumbler, a saucer/plate, matchbox, transparent Bowl, thin thread, Modelling clay or Eraser, Paper, Scissors, Serving spoon with long handle, drawing sheet, glasses, food colour, water, a deep plate or saucer    

6)    Experiments with match box on 03.05.2022 from 04:00 pm to 05:30 pm:

Material required : Coin, 06 Small Matchbox, 2 big size matchbox (optional), needle, pencil, thread, glue, 
u-clips, scissors, sketchpens, cutter 

7)    Soap bubble workshop on 04.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm:
Making and blowing bubbles is everyone's delight. They are  fascinating & captivating but there is huge scientific information associated with it as well. Why bubbles are spherical in shape? Why they appear colourful ? To get answers to these queries and to have lots of fun activities with bubbles, Nehru Science Centre has brought SOAP BUBBLE WORKSHOP for students. If you want to become a part of this workshop, kindly register at the earliest.

Material required: Any kind of Soap Solution etc, Sugar/ Glycerine, Straws, Tray for blowing bubbles, food colour /  water colour, Note Book Paper

8)    STEM workshop for kids on 04.05.2022 from 04:00 pm to 05:30 pm:

Material required : A paper cup (150 ml), pipe cleaner, card paper, simple paper, scissors, glue, straws, pencil, water bottle, paper, sketch pens, tapes, tag pin, cutter, Paper cup 150 ml, sketch pens, tooth pick / wooden skewer, push pin, Card papers of different colours, double tape

9)    Experiments using CDs on 05.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm:

Material required :  CD – 7nos,     Glue or Fevicol , Thread , Beads (Buttons) Req, Paper Spiral template (will be shared with registered participants), A4 Paper Sheets, Piece of cardboard, Tape, Scissors, Ruler (30 cm), Pencil, Sketch Pens (Rainbow Colours), Thick paper (corrugated sheet), Stiff straw: Length 8 cm, Foam Sheet (you can use the material which comes with box packing), Rubber bands, Balloons, Nails, Coins, Transprent CDs (02 No.) , Marbles, Marker Pens.

10)    Coding workshop on 05.05.2022 from 04:00 pm to 05:30 pm:

Download & install the Scratch software using the link https://scratch.mit.edu/download before workshop starts.

11)    Experiments with balloons on 06.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm:
Nehru Science Centre Mumbai is organizing Online Science Workshops on Activities with Balloons. 
Balloons are everyone’s delight. For this reason balloons are used extensively in birthday parties, wedding receptions. But whether is this the only use of balloons? NO!

Apart from various applications like entertainment, advertising, transport (hot air balloons), weather stations, balloons can be used to demonstrate many science experiments. Also textbook science can come alive with balloons. Here, in this program, we will try out some hands-on science experiments with balloons.

Material required : Balloons, plastic bottles, cello tape, straws, scissors, incense sticks, match box, threads, tape, candle, matches, water, plates, pencil, tissue paper, glue.

12)    Science Sparkle from 07.05.2022 to 09.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 01:30 pm:

Students will make 15 simple science toys using the templates and other material provided to them, which they will be allowed to take home. They need to carry a pair of scissors and glue. 

Material to be arranged by participant: scissors, colors, pen or pencil, cardboard box, 1 Liter transparent plastic water bottle (preferably plain surface), 5 Rs. Coin, 

13)    Electronics
Students will learn about the Basic Components, Resistors / Inductors / Capacitors – working principle, measurement & testing, color coding, types, units, etc. 

Semiconductor Types, Devices and Working Principle and Projects on Breadboard

1 Project fully made by students to take home. (Identification and Mounting of Components, Soldering on PCB, Testing of Circuit, etc.)

14)    Making Science Toys
Students will make Science Toys and explore the science behind these toys. All they need to carry is a pair of scissors and glue

15)    Model Rocketry
Students will construct actual flying rockets out of tinted paper following the model rocketeer’s safety code. They will also learn about the stability test and make instrument to measure the performance of the rocket. 

16)    Exploring the Moon
Students will learn about the important facts about the Moon. They will make model to understand the phases of the Moon, eclipses and learn about the some of the past expeditions on the Moon. 
They need to carry a pair of scissors and glue. 

17)    Aeromodelling workshop from 14.05.2022 to 16.05.2022 from 11:00 am to 01:30 pm
The students will learn to make different glider planes and other flying objects using different materials such as paper, Mount board, high density Styrofoam. 

18)    Interesting Chemistry
Projects will be on how to make super slime, home-made indicators, to study natural indicators, growing a crystal garden, fruit battery etc.

19)    Creative Art & Craft
Students will learn to make several craft items using different types of material.

20)    Biology
Projects will be on preparing slides, microscopic observation, diffusion & osmosis, DNA extraction, flower part identification etc.

21)    3D modelling and printing
Students will learn 3D modelling using blender software and also learn the basics od 3D printing using Makerbot replicator 5th Generation 3D printer.

22)    Arduino workshop
This course is designed to provide basics of the Arduino Integrated development Environment (IDE) and hardware so that they can write sketches for simple tasks on their own.   

Introduction to Microcontrollers and Arduino Modules and the IDE. Structure of the Arduino Sketch 

Arduino Multi Function Shield (MFS): Introduction, How to access different pins, Buzzer, multiplexing the LEDs in different ways and integration of different sensors to create useful devices.

23)    Robotics Workshop for 03 days Jr. and Sr. Group from 10:30 am to 01:30 pm

Contents of Workshop

1.    Overview – EV3 Lego Kit and Parts, Introduction to Hardware and Software.

2.    Use of Sensors – Touch, Ultrasonic, Light, etc.

3.    Controlling of Motors.

4.    Basic Assembly with Sensors and Motors. e.g. Driving Base.

5.     Programming with Hands-on Activities with multiple projects each day.

6.    Learning concepts in individual and teams by using STEMA Skills for Robotics Applications

7.    Competition in all Teams to test progress in individual and team activities. 


24)    Amazing Science Activities & Toys Workshop (Total 8 Activities with paper cups & other material) on 04.06.2022 from 11.00 am to 01.00 pm

25)    Fly & Enjoy workshop (Number of activities 10) on 04.06.2022 from 03.00 pm to 05.00 pm

26)    Learn through the Fun workshop (Number of activities - 8) on 05.06.2022 from 11:00 am to 01:00 pm

27)    Workshop on ‘Seeing is Not Believing’ (Number of activities-6) on 05.06.2022 from 03:00 pm to 05:00 pm
