Worker Population Ratio (WPR) and Unemployment Rate (UR) in Maharashtra
Maharashtra’s Unemployment Rate for people 15 years and above declined, Worker Population Ratio increased in during 2019-20

Unemployment Rate (UR) on usual status for the persons of age 15 years and above has declined whereas the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) has increased in Maharashtra during the year 2019-20 as compared to 2018-19, as per the data provided by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The data on Employment and Unemployment is collected through Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) since 2017-18.
Year-wise estimated WPR and UR in Maharashtra on usual status for age 15 years and above during last two years are given below:

Employment generation coupled with improving employability is the priority of the Government. Accordingly, the Government of India has taken various steps for generating employment in the country including various districts of Maharashtra. The Government of India has announced Aatmanirbhar Bharat package to provide stimulus to business and to mitigate the adverse impact of COVID-19. Under this package, the Government is providing fiscal stimulus of more than Rs. 27 lakh crore. This package comprises various long-term schemes/ programmes/ policies for making the country self-reliant and to create employment opportunities.
