The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. The NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.

 

Presently, the total enrolled strength of NCC is 14,09,571 cadets.  The State-wise list of enrolled NCC cadets, as on 15.12.2021, is given below:
 

 

Action taken by the Government to promote NCC in educational institutions of the country includes:

 

• Providing free NCC training and uniform to students enrolled in NCC through Government educational institutions.
• Issue of A, B & C Certificates which has varying benefits/ concessions for higher Education as well as in employment.
• Opportunity to visit foreign countries through NCC Youth Exchange Programme and aboard on Naval ships.
• Exposure to adventure activities like rock craft, mountaineering etc. Concession/priority in selection into armed forces.

 

The Training activities of NCC cadets are governed by National Cadet Corps Rules, 1948. As per clauses 33, 34 and 34-A of these Rules, every cadet appointed to Senior/Junior Division in a unit is liable to undergo service training, during the annual college and school session for a period of 4 hours per week during the training year and for a minimum period of 65 hours. Apart from this the cadets shall also undergo further service training with an Armed Forces unit as required. The cadets are also liable to attend an annual training camp of 14 days duration in case of Senior Division unit and of 10 days duration in case of a Junior Division unit during the training year. They are also mandated to undergo Social service training for specific periods as prescribed. In addition to this the cadets are also liable to undergo further service training voluntarily which may be sanctioned by the Government.

 

The job opportunities provided to NCC Cadets, inter-alia, are as follows:

 

• Certain number of vacancies are reserved for NCC Cadets in Armed Forces.

• Incentives for NCC cadets have been introduced by Ministry of Home Affairs for enrolment of NCC A, B & C certificate holders in all Central Armed Police Forces. 
• Indian Maritime University (IMU) has given 5% weightage to NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders in entrance exam for Marine Courses conducted by IMU.
• In a recent enrolment process, a prominent industry has enrolled 70 NCC ‘C’ certificate holders as Security Executive Officer after 6 months of training in their training institute
