On February 22, 2022, as part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations, the Department of Telecom, Gujarat LSA, hosted a Webinar on Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM WANI) under the chairmanship of DDG Shri R.L. Meena.

The webinar was attended by approximately 35 participants comprising the representatives from Telecom Service Providers, Internet Service Providers, Industrial Associations Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and prospective business entities & entrepreneurs.

Shri R.L. Meena, DDG, Gujarat LSA, gave the keynote address and informed the audience that the main feature of the “PM WANI” scheme is the penetration of broadband through low-cost mass Internet Connectivity across the country by through decentralized system of public W-Fi hotspots. The scheme will generate employment opportunities for an individual as well as increased business for retail outlets like grocery shop owners. Department of Telecommunications will assist all the stakeholders in implementation and proliferation of “PM WANI”.

A brief presentation on the “PM WANI” framework was given by Shri Vikas Dadhich, Director (Technology), DoT Gujarat LSA. He went over the various components of the "PM WANI" i.e. public Wi-Fi Hotspots (PDO), their aggregators (PDOA), Central Registry, and App Providers.

Ms. Shrinivas Gudipudi from Matrecomm Techonologies Pvt. Ltd. (a PDOA) explained the advantages of “PM WANI”, tariff plans and revenue sharing model between PDO and PDOA.
