Budget 2022-23: Five river linking projects on cards after consensus of beneficiary states


Consensus among states awaited for five river linking projects

Mentioning the status of proposed five river linking projects in country, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her Budget speech that draft Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of these river links have been finalized and consensus among beneficiary states is awaited.

River linking projects referred here are Damanganga-Pinjal, Par-Tapi-Narmada, Godavari-Krishna, Krishna-Pennar and Pennar-Cauveri.

She added that the support from the Centre will be provided after a consensus is made among the states associated with these projects.

“Once a consensus is reached among the beneficiary states the Centre will provide support for implementation,” she said in her speech.

Responding to the river linking announcement in Budget 2022-23 , Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat tweeted, “Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ji’s announcement of five river links - Daman Ganga-Pinjal, Par Tapi-Narmada, Godavari-Krishna, Krishna-Pennar and Pennar-Cauveri - will go a long way in easing the problem of water shortage in remote and arid parts of the country.”
