Skill Development Training to Migrant Workers

Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India launched Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan (GKRA) to provide immediate employment and livelihood opportunities to returnee Shramiks (migrant workers) and the rural population covering selected 116 districts across six States affected by Covid-19 pandemic by focusing on 25 categories of works/activities. 

In order to support GKRA, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has formulated a special programme under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) for the skill training of Shramiks (migrant labourers). This component has covered 116 districts of 6 States, namely, Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Under this initiative, as on 21.11.2021, 1.24 lakh persons have been trained. The State-wise number of Shramiks (migrant workers) trained under GKRA is given below:

In order to fulfill the requirement of domestic industries, MSDE has launched demand-driven Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0 (PMKVY 3.0) across the country. Further, employer-led training is being imparted to ensure captive placement of trained candidates under PMKVY 3.0. Additionally, under special project of PMKVY 3.0, private participation with their funding has been encouraged to ensure maximum placement of the candidates.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
