The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala, today launched the River Ranching Programme at Brijghat, Garh Mukteshwar, Uttar Pradesh today  at 10.00 AM to 12.00 Noon in the presence of other dignitaries Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan,  Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying., Shri Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary,  Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of U.P. , Shri Rajendra Agarwal,  Member of Parliament, Lokshabha Seat, Meerut, U.P., Shri Kamal Singh Malik,  MLA., Garh mukteshwar, U.P., Shri JatindraNath Swain, Secretary, DoF,GoI., Dr.C.Suvarna,Chief Executive, NFDB, Hyderabad,  Shri SagarMehra, Joint Secretary (Inland Fisheries), DoF, GOI and other dignitaries from NFDB, DoF and local bodies.

At the same time, other 4 states namely, Uttarakhand, Orissa, Tripura and Chhattisgarh also participated nationwide River Ranching program launching.

 

In UP, 3 lakhs fingerlings were ranched at 3 sites namely, Brijghat, Garhmukteshwar, Tigri, Meerut and Bijnor. The launching was done by Shri Parshottam Rupala, The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India, in the presence of other dignitaries Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying., Shri Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of U.P. , Shri Rajendra Agarwal, Member of Parliament, Lokshabha Seat, Meerut, U.P., Shri Kamal Singh Malik, , MLA., Garhmukteshwar, U.P., Shri JatindraNath Swain, Secretary, DoF,GoI., Dr.C.Suvarna,Chief Executive, NFDB, Hyderabad,  Shri SagarMehra, Joint Secretary (Inland Fisheries), DoF, GOI and other dignitaries from NFDB, DoF and local bodies. More than 500 people participated I the national level launching of River Ranching program in UP.

In Uttarakhand, a total of 1 lakh fingerlings were ranched at Chandi Ghat, Ganga River, Haridwar and the ranching was done by Shri. Nepal Singh Ex-state level minister, Shri. Bipin Kumar Garg, ChairmanaBJP,Jabhreda, Haridwar and Shri. Saurabh Rana, Representative, NamamiGange. Approximately 150 people participated the River ranching program in Uttarakhand

In Tripura, a total of 1.85 lakh of fingerlings were ranched at 4 sites namely, Khowai river, Teliamura; Gomati river, Udaipur; Dhalai river, Kamalpur and Deo river, Dashamighat by SmtJamuna Das, Chairperson; Sri Biplab Ghosh, MLA, Matabari Assembly Sri Sujit Biswas, Chairman, Salema Panchayat Constituency and Smt. Happy Das, Chairperson, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti respectively along with other dignitaries. A total of 218 participants attended the river ranching program.

In Chhattisgarh, 1.5 lakh fingerling has been ranched MirouneeBairaj, Mahanadi by Smt. SakshiBanjare, Zilla Panchayat Member, Smt. VidyaSidar, Animal husbandry and fishery dept. President, Shri Lambodhar Chandra, Janpath president and Shri DharmlalSahu, Sarpanch. Approximately 100 people attended the river ranching program in Chhattisgarh.

In Orissa, 1.5 lakh fingering were ranched at Munduli, Cuttack and the river ranching program was launched by Sri Bijaya Kumar Khandayataray, ADM, Ambar kumar, PD, DRDA, Rajesh Behera, LDM, U.K. Mohanty, ADDL. Director of fisheries, Subrat Dash, GM, OPDC, and JyotirekhaBehera, President, ZillaParishad, Smt. BabitaMohanta, Dist. Fisheries Officer and PFCS members. A total of 102 participants attended the river ranching program in Orissa.

Total 5 states have participated the National Level River Ranching program launching and a total of 8.85 lakh fingerlings were ranched. More than 1060 nos. of participation from these 5 states and have made the National Level River Ranching Program a grand success.

“River ranching programme” is introduced as special activity under PMMSY scheme for augmenting and enhancing the fish production and productivity through expansion, intensification, diversification and productive utilization of land and water. Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries has designated National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad as the Nodal Agency under Central Sector component of PMMSY for implementing River Ranching across the Country. With growing human population, the requirement of high quality protein, the demand of fish is gradually increasing. To promote the sustainable use and conservation of fishery resources in an economical and environmentally responsible manner has become the need of the hour. The River Ranching Program is one such activity which can achieve sustainable fisheries, reducing habitat degradation, conserving biodiversity, maximizing social-economic benefits and assessing ecosystem services. Nevertheless, River Ranching also ensures the upgrade of traditional fishery, ecosystem sustainability and trade & social protection of Inland communities.

It is programmed to address increased fish catch, improved livelihood of fishers and to maintain the cleanliness of the river as they feed on organic remnants. Primarily to uplift the depleted fish stock and to enhance production of the ranched fish species.

As a Phase –I programme NFDB during 2020-21 has targeted three major river systems namely Ganges and its tributaries, Brahmaputra & Barak river tributaries and Mahanadi & other rivers. Accordingly, six major Inland state focusing on length of river belt namely Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Bihar were selected along with targeted sites for releasing of fish fingerlings. NFDB sanctioned a total budget of Rs.2.81 crores to ranch 97.16 lakh fingerlings to States as a part of Action plan 2020-21 of PMMSY.

 

 

Aiming the above objectives, State has followed the breeding protocol and standard measures that required for ranching the fingerlings of native fish species into the rivers, which will help in increasing the fish production, improve the livelihood of dependent fishers and also make a healthy environment in riverine system. For river ranching the suggested fingerling size is 80-100mm, as the fingerlings have reached the preferable size for RANCHING PROGRAMME in the selected state. Hence, NFDB in collaboration with 6 States under DoF guidance launched the programme at National Level today.
