Inauguration of the ‘Vanijya Utsav’ in Kolkata,organized by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry

To celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and its glorious history, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry is organizing special events and programmes throughout the week as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.

The Department of Commerce is observing the ‘Vanijya Saptah’ (Trade & Commerce Week) during the period 20-26 September, 2021. A slew of programmes and events are  organized across the country highlighting Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Showcasing India as a Rising Economic Force and Green & Swachh SEZs besides handholding sessions focusing on ‘From Farm to Foreign Lands’ and exporter conclaves, ‘Vanijya Utsav’, covering all 739 districts of the country.

In West Bengal , state government and Export And Market Development Assistance (E&MDA) helped the Directorate General of Foreign Trade(DGFT) to organized 2 days ‘Vanijya Utsav’ (Trade & Commerce Festival) at Viswa Bangla Convention Centre , NewTown, Kolkata.  Inaugurating the festival, the ADG of DGFT Kolkata Srimati Anindita Sengupta said that the main purpose of this festival is to convert each district into an export hub. For this reason it is necessary to identify the product of each district which can be exported. In this process the business community of concern district should know the facts about to maintain the product quality  so that the product can get a steady market.  The District Export Promotion Committees (DEPCs) will play a vital role in this aspect.

It is worthy to mention that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to convert each district into an export hub from the ramparts of Red Fort in his Independence Day Address on 15th August, 2019, the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) scheme was unveiled in September, 2020 under the directions of the Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal. ODOP is seen as a transformational step forward towards realizing the true potential of a district, fuel economic growth and generate employment and rural entrepreneurship, taking us to the goal of AtmaNirbhar Bharat.

B. K Panda, Development Commissioner, Falta Special economic zone  said that in West Bengal there is enough man power as well as natural resources. So it is easy to convert each district of state to convert into an export hub. Even during the Covid Lockdown, the quantity of export was increased. B H Patel , president of CAPEXL and other dignitaries were present at the inaugural session. There is an exhibition where local exporters, producers and industrialists were present.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is being celebrated by every State, Ministry and Department in various ways. It embodies all that is progressive about India's socio-cultural and economic identity. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the curtain raiser activities of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in Ahmedabad on March 12, 2021, 75 weeks before 15 August, 2022 and it will continue till 15 August, 2023. Prime Minister has urged people to celebrate this festival for 75 weeks with the sole purpose of leading the country on the path of development and benefit the people of our nation.
