Webinar on “POSHAN Abhiyaan – Sahi Poshan Desh Roshan” organized today

In order to ensure community mobilization and bolster people’s participation, every year, the month of September is celebrated as POSHAN Maah across the country. As part of POSHAN Maah 2021 celebrations, a webinar on “POSHAN Abhiyaan – Sahi Poshan Desh Roshan” was organised today by Press Information Bureau (PIB) & Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Chandigarh, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. 

 

Ms. Seema Prashad, District Project Officer (WCD), Yamunanagar, Haryana and Dr. Rachana Srivastava, Scientist, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, UT Chandigarh participated as the guest speakers in the virtual meet.

Ms. Seema Prashad talked about the implementation of POSHAN Abhiyaan in Yamunanagar district of Haryana. She said that to encourage pregnant women to consume nutritious diet, door-to-door distribution of Nutrition Kits is being done. She further mentioned that quiz competitions and heath camps are also being organised to create awareness about POSHAN Abhiyaan.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Rachana Srivastava emphasized on the importance good nutrition for children and mothers during first 1000 days of life. Talking about the importance of eating balanced diet, she said that her department is organizing e-Rasoi sessions to give live demonstration of healthy recipes. She further talked about “Suposhan” - a DST (Department of Science and technology) funded website developed by her which provides Nutrition knowledge in fight against malnutrition.

In his welcome address, Sh. Himanshu Pathak, Assistant Director, PIB, Chandigarh said that POSHAN Abhiyaan is Government of India’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent Girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. 

 

Ms. Sapna, Assistant Director, ROB Chandigarh moderated the session and closed the webinar with a vote of thanks to the speakers and the participants present. Anganwadi workers and ICDS officers from the region and officials of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting from the region participated in the webinar.
