INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DIFFERENTLY ABLED OBSERVED ON DECEMBER 3
54.75 lakh unique disabled identity cards issued all over India till now

The international day of differently abled persons is being observed on December 3 every year under the auspices of the United Nations. The day was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution. The observance of the day aims to promote understanding of disability issues, and mobilise support of dignity, rights and well being of persons with disabilities. The theme for this year is 'Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World'
In India, various schemes are being implemented for the welfare of differently abled persons by central and various state governments. Union government is also implementing Swavlamban Unique Disabled Identity -UDID project for giving universal ID & Disability Certificates with identification and disability details. It includes online availability of data of Person with Disabilities across country through a centralized web application. Offline applications are also accepted and subsequently digitized by agencies. Online renewal and update of information by Person with Disabilities is also done on their behalf. Differently abled persons are required to register with the UDID portal. Once registered, after the login is complete, they will be able to apply online for Disability Certificate and UDID card. They will also be able to track the status of their application. They can put forward their request for renewal of Disability Certificate/UDID Card and also request for another card in case of loss of their UDID Card. They can also download and print the copy of their respective Disability Certificate/UDID Card. Almost 54.75 lakh UDID cards have been given all over India. In Tamil Nadu, 2.50 lakh UDID cards have been issued to differently abled persons. 38 states including Tamil Nadu Andhra Telengana Madhya Pradesh Uttar Pradesh started issuing UDID cards.
In Tiruchirapalli, marriage assistance of Rs 25,000 and 8 gm gold coin is given for differently abled persons and Rs 50,000 and 8 gm gold coin given to differently abled persons who are graduates through social welfare department. Beneficiaries will have to apply within one year of the marriage according to district collector Shri Sivarasu. Copy of the national unique disability identity card , wedding invitation, passport size photo, copy of ration card, first marriage certificate from Village administrative officer should be submitted alongwith the application to the district differently abled welfare office.
