MGNREGA WORKS REVIVING RURAL LIVELIHOOD


MIYAWAKI MASS TREE TRANSPLANTATION DRIVE UNDERWAY IN TRICHY DISTRICT

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural employment guarantee Act- MGNREGA scheme has revived the rural livelihood affected by Covid 19 pandemic lockdown. The MGNREGA works are being done under strict safe distance norms and workers are instructed to wear face masks to prevent spread of pandemic.

 Union Finance Minister said that  Rs 73,504 crore has been released under MGNREGA and 251 crore person-days of employment have been generated till now. MGNREGA was provided with Rs 61,500 crore in Budget for 2020-21. Rs.40,000crore was additionally provided in AatmaNirbhar Bharat 1.0.   Till now 22.20 crore man days employment has been generated in Tamil Nadu according to officials.  There are 73 lakh active job cards out of 88 lakh cards issued and 90 lakh active MGNREGA workers in Tamil Nadu. Government has increased the MGNREGA wages to Rs 254 in Tamil Nadu due to loss of livelihood during pandemic. In Tiruchirapalli,  MGNREGA works are taken up in connection with watershed management and irrigation canal desilting works in MayanurPanchayat in Trichy'sManikandam Block. In Anthanallur block- Murungapettai village MGNREGA workers led by work supervisor removed shrubs and cleaned the area. All the workers were wearing face masks and they were working under safe distance norms.

Tiruchirapalli collector Shri Sivarasu inaugurated Miyawaki method of mass plantation in Poonampalayam village of Manachanallur block utilising MGNREGA workers. Under the scheme more than 50000 saplings of mango, guava, tamarind, vempu, sapota, lemon, vaagai, poovarasam are planted in 4.26 acre under Miyawaki method in Poonampalayam village. This will help to maintain greenery and safeguard environment.  Japanese method of Miyawaki mass tree transplantation is tried for the first time in Tiruchirapalli. MGNREGA workers are actively involved in mass tree transplantation which will change the face of Poonampalayam village.

In Trichy district administration is coordinating with Railways, revenue department, Hindu religious CE, Town panchayats and local administration to implement Miyawaki mass transplantation drive in various vacant plots of government. In Srirangam South,  devi street, perumalpuram, Sanjeevnagar, Balaji Nagar, Tiruvanaikovil and  North Sreenivasa Nagar,  35,00 tree saplings have been planted under the scheme. In Lalgudi railway area 15000 tree saplings have been planted in 1.75 acres and in  Kallakudi 20,000 tree saplings planted in 1.30 acres, and in Samayapuram,  Makalikudi village ArulmiguUjjayiniOmkaliamman temple premises , 10,000 plant saplings have been planted in 0.85 acres according to district administration.

MGNREGA works have given steady income  to rural workers as well as strengthen the  infrastructure development of the nation. The rural economy and livelihood have been safeguarded by strengthening water resources ,desilting of canals ponds and now through Miyawaki mass tree planting,  conserving the  environment too.
