Webinar on ‘Transparent Taxation—Honouring the Honest’

Platform will further carry forward the journey of Direct Tax reforms’

‘Transparent Taxation—Honouring The Honest’ platform, which was launched by the Prime Minister,Shri Narendra Modi on 13th of this month, will further carry forward the journey of direct tax reforms in the country, said Smt, Vasundhara Sinha, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Hyderabad. Delivering the Key note address at a webinar on ‘TRANSPARENT TAXATION—HONORING THE HONEST’, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India on Friday, She said in the new system there is no place for discrimination of Income tax officers. Under faceless assessment, the scrutiny of returns of a taxpayer will be done by a tax officer selected at random and not necessarily from the same jurisdiction. This will do away the need for any face-to-face contact between the taxpayer and tax official, thereby reducing the chances of coercion. The Principal Commissioner said the move is expected to ease the compliance burden for assesses and reward the “honest taxpayer”, who plays a big role in nation-building. A faceless tax system would give the taxpayer confidence on fairness and fearlessness, she said. 

Delivering the key-note address, Shri S.Venkateswar, Director General (South), PIB said tax players play a big role in nation building and honest tax payers should be honoured. Saying that the Government of India has taken several steps to bring transparency in direct tax system and hoped that the new platform will further simplify the tax system. Officers from the PIB, ROB, Income Tax department and several Chartered Accounts participated in the webinar.
