Region returning to normalcy as new guidelines by Ministry of Home Affairs come into effect

Chandigarh, June 2, 2020

The states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and UT of Chandigarh  in the region are returning to normalcy with more activities resuming as new guidelines by Ministry of Home Affairs come into effect from June 1. Under these guidelines activities like interstate and intrastate movement of persons and goods are allowed but states can propose to regulate the movement of persons based on public health and assessment of situation. 

As unlock 1.0 begins, the Ludhiana bus stand springs back to life with large number of passengers turning to board buses. The passengers with masks seen to be waiting patiently for their turn at a ticket counter. They are being thermal scanned before boarding the buses. Similarly, all HRTC buses are set to resume operations in Himachal Pradesh. At  ISBT Shimla, all buses are being sanitized and staff is given necessary instructions to ensure that all norms are followed. Almost all shops have reopened in Railway Road market in Rohtak and people are back on the roads in sizeable numbers.

Under the new guidelines, states are also advised to encourage “Aarogya Setu” mobile app. The app informs the people of their potential risk of COVID-19 infection and the best practices to be followed to stay healthy, as well as providing them relevant and curated medical advisories. A doctor in Civil Hospital in Karnal, Haryana said it is more important for vulnerable like senior citizens, children etc. and should be downloaded by everyone.

Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on May 29, 2020 issued new guidelines to fight COVID-19 and for phased re-opening of areas outside the Containment Zones. The current phase of re-opening, Unlock 1, will have an economic focus. These guidelines would be effective till June 30, 2020.
