Lifting of restrictions in lockdown comes as a big relief for retailers in the region

Chandigarh, May 22, 2020

Lifting of restrictions in lockdown has come as a big relief for retailers in the region. The order of Ministry of Home Affairs dated 17.05.2020 extended lockdown till May end, permitting all activities except those which are specifically prohibited. Following this, State Governments in the region have further eased restrictions allowing resumption of commercial activities.

Sunil Kumar, a shopkeeper in Chandigarh thanked the government for allowing opening of shops during lockdown and said this will also help workers to earn their livelihood. He also said necessary precautions are being taken like maintaining social distancing among the customers, availability of sanitizer in the shops, etc. A shopkeeper in Shastri Market in Chandigarh said they are taking all the measures in light of the COVID-19. Another shopkeeper from Chandigarh said it is good to work as they were doing nothing for the last two months. This will help him earn his livelihood.

Blacksmith Billu Khan in Malerkotla from Punjab is happy to be back to work after the government allows opening up of most establishments. He said that he has opened his shop after 42 days.

As per the orders, in the containment zones, only essential activities shall be allowed. There shall be strict perimeter control to ensure that there is no movement of people in or out of these zones, except for medical emergencies and for maintaining supply of essential goods and services.
