Gold worth Rs. 18 .6 lakhs seized by Customs At Chennai Airport

          On Saturday one  Sekh Mohammad Maim, 23, of Hooghly, West Bengal who had arrived from Bangkok by Indigo Airlines Flight No. 6E 92,  was intercepted by  AIU officers at the exit. On  examination of his checked-in luggage - a stroller suit case  including one baby stroller suit case kept in it and another stroller suit case brought as hand luggage  12 nos. of small gold cylindrical rods of 24K purity were found ingeniosly  concealed in the  wheels  of the stroller suitcases.  The gold rods weighing  203 grams and valued at Rs. 8 lakhs were recovered.  On personal search of the passenger , gold in  rubbery spread was found concealed  inside sanitary pad  inside his under. On extraction  270 grams of gold valued at Rs. 10.6  lakhs  was recovered.  Total 473  grams gold  valued at  Rs. 18.6   lakhs were recovered and  seized under Customs Act, 1962.

            Further investigation is in progress, according to the press release issued by the  Commissioner of Customs, Chennai International Airport.
